Electric Words is my "brand identity", me being Bob Emmerson,
an English national living in the Netherlands. I have a degree in electronic
engineering and mathematics from London University and now work as an all-round
freelance writer, focusing on Information and Communications Technology.
I have written articles and columns for a number of international publications,
most of which are (sadly) no longer with us, e.g. Byte: an IT bible. Right now I am the European Editor of M2M Magazine as well
as TMC and I'm also a contributor to No Jitter., but the majority
of my income comes from white papers. Clients in this area include Alcatel-Lucent,
Cisco, Genesys, Microsoft, Mitel, Nokia Networks, Nokia Siemens Networks,
Owera, Picsel, Siemens and U4EA.
In former lives
I was a designer of digital control systems, a journalist, and then a copywriter.
For a number of years I ran my own advertising/pr agency in Brussels: clients
included ITT Europe, Philips, Intel and The Financial Times. This experience
means that I can also work as a Marketing Communications consultant. In
addition to creating numerous sales brochures/leaflets/presentations and
writing press releases and press kits, I have produced three market reports
for the Financial Times and two for VON Publishing. In addition I've written
two books, the first is titled "21st Century Communications", the second
which was co-authored with Jeff Pulver is "Run your Organization in Real
Time".
